Tools & Hair Products for a Silk Press

We have completed the silk press procedure.  Although it is quite easy, the process is made more efficient by selecting the appropriate tools and products.

In addition to providing smooth, silky, and bouncy hair, using the proper equipment and products will guarantee that your hair stays healthy.

Let us demonstrate how to choose the ideal materials and equipment for a stunning silk press:

1. Selecting the Right Flat Iron

Selecting the Right Flat Iron

The flat iron is one of the most important tools used to do a silk press. A bad or inferior flat iron can come between you and sleek, beautiful hair.

When choosing a flat iron, consider the following:

a. The size and composition of the plate: Ceramic plates are frequently superior to titanium ones.  This is due to the fact that they limit damage (your hair will barely get stuck between the plates) and distribute heat evenly.

But while the titanium plates offer greater heat, the tourmaline plates can add more shine.

b. Select a flat iron with flexible settings: thicker hair may demand temperatures of 350–400°F, while fine or damaged hair may require lower heat, about 250–300°F.

You may therefore change the temperature as you go by selecting a flat iron with customizable settings.

c. Select a flat iron with a wide plate: This option significantly cuts down on the amount of time needed to style hair.  More hair may be covered at once with a broad, flat iron plate—typically 1.5 inches—which cuts down on style time.

A 1-inch plate provides more control for shorter hair.

2. Heat Protectants and Serums

Particularly when heat styling, heat protectants are essential.  Your hair is shielded from possible heat damage by heat protectants.

1. Look for goods that contain silicone when purchasing heat protectants.  This component aids in protecting your hair from harm.

2. Moisture can be preserved by using a heat protectant prior to styling.  To avoid making your hair feel heavy, use a lightweight serum.

Apply a shine serum after a silk press.  You should search for products that contain jojoba or argan oil in order to accomplish this.  Your hair will be nourished by these items.

3. Shampoos and Conditioners

An essential step in the silk press process is cleaning and deep conditioning your hair.  You should avoid styling unclean hair.  Additionally, you will spend days wearing your silk-pressed hair.

1. To cleanse your hair without depleting its natural oils, use a moisturizing shampoo without sulfates.  Keep an eye out for components that hydrate and protect hair, such as shea butter or coconut oil.

2. Select a conditioner that is designed to hold onto moisture (see the product description for the moisturizing ingredient).  Particularly for complex hair, deep conditioners can provide additional moisture.

3. Use a leave-in conditioner.  A leave-in conditioner aids in styling and provides an additional layer of protection.
