What is a Wig Density and How Can I Tell the Density of My Wig ?

What is a Wig Density?

A wig density is simply the number of hair strands you have per square meter on a wig. If you have a few hair strands per square meter, then you have a low-density/lightweight wig. If you have more hair per square meter, then you have a dense wig.

A hair's density is not the same as its thickness.  The thickness of the hair is determined by the width of the strands.  For this reason, if the individual strands of a dense wig are fine, it may appear light.

In other words, a 180 density wig has less hair per square meter, a 220 density wig has more hair, and a 250 density wig has even more hair.

The quantity of hair strands per square meter with corresponding lengths (from roots to tip) or percentages (180%, 220%, 250%) are two ways that some people choose to think about it.

You should be able to clearly see what we have been discussing from this image:

As the percentage increased, did you notice that the hair looked fuller?

As seen in the picture, the wig with a larger percentage density will appear thin at the root and tip.  Additionally, this helps you visualize the appearance of the 220 and 250 densities.

How Can I Tell the Density of My Wig?

By carefully reading the description on the product page or the packaging, you may determine the density of your wig.  We are aware that some wig sellers might not include the correct information, but you can still tell.

According to studies, you can estimate the wig's density by looking at its weight and length.  Depending on the weight and length of your wig, you can determine its density using the chat below:

That's it!

Purchasing a wig with the appropriate density will guarantee that you get the hairdo you want.  Here's what to do if your current wig has the incorrect density:

Is your wig's density too low?

You can create the appearance of volume by brushing or cutting your wig if its density is too low.  To ventilate more hair strands, you might apply more weft if you have the time.

Is your wig's density excessively high?

You can lower the density of your wig if it's too high by clipping some hair to lower the volume or plucking off some hair to create a more realistic appearance.
