Human Hair Wig cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning frequency

How often do wigs need to be washed? Unlike our natural hair, human hair wigs don't require frequent washing because they don't absorb the natural oils from the scalp. Typically, a wig can be washed every 10-15 days or every 2-4 weeks, depending on your lifestyle and activity level. However, to extend the life of your wig, washing it less often is better.

Cleaning and Care Steps

The wig cleaning process is similar to washing your hair daily, primarily involving the following five key steps:

Combing

Before washing your wig, it's recommended to comb it to minimize hair loss. Start at the ends and gently comb toward the crown, ensuring the entire wig is combed and smoothed.

Rinsing

After combing your wig, rinse it with cool or warm water. Avoid using excessively hot water, as this may damage the wig.

Choosing a Shampoo

You don't need a specific shampoo for washing your human hair wig. However, for optimal protection, it's recommended to use a sulfate- and alcohol-free shampoo. To rinse, first lather the wig with a generous amount of shampoo in your palms. Then, gently apply the lather to the wig and rub it gently. Rinse thoroughly with cool or warm water. Finally, be careful to remove any excess water and avoid twisting or pulling the wig.

Using Conditioner

Since the hair on a wig lacks the nutrients your scalp provides, it must be properly cared for. After rinsing your hair, gently apply conditioner to your hair, taking care to avoid contact with the hairnet. Let it sit for 10 to 30 minutes to allow the conditioner to fully nourish your hair, then rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Air Drying

Wigs should not be blow-dried directly. It is recommended to air dry them, perhaps hanging them overnight. If time is of the essence and a blow-dryer is necessary, place the wig on a stand and blow-dry gradually. Afterward, apply a leave-in conditioner to ensure the hair on the human hair wig is fully nourished and prevent frizz and discoloration.
