Can human hair wigs be dried in the dryer?

No — you should never put your wig in a dryer, whether it’s human hair wig or synthetic wig.
Here’s why and what you can do instead:

Why You Shouldn’t Put a Wig in the Dryer

1、Heat Damage:The intense heat can melt synthetic fibers or dry out and burn human hair strands.Your wig will sustain significant damage from the heat produced by a clothes dryer.  In the end, wigs—including human hair and heat-friendly wigs—are not designed to tolerate high temperatures.  Both synthetic and human hair wig fibers will be melted or burned by the intense heat.  Additionally, the heat will distort the bonding or wig cap!  We strongly advise against drying your wig in your clothes dryer at all costs to prevent irreparable harm to your fragile thin HD lace wigs.

2、Lace and Cap Warping:The heat can shrink or distort the lace and wig cap, ruining the fit and shape.

3、Tangles and Frizz:The tumbling motion causes matting, tangling, and frizz, especially around the ends. As everyone is aware, dryers that spin and move your wigs or hair bundles quickly may cause a lot of friction.  In this instance, the friction will cause your wigs to become extremely matted and knotted.  Even worse, it will be nearly impossible to get rid of these knots unless you rip and clip the hair.  Excessive friction will harm your wig, whether it is made of synthetic or human hair.  Over time, friction can break down the fibers in synthetic or real hair wigs, resulting in hair loss.  Frizz, dryness, and split ends could also result from it.  How agonizing!

How to Dry Your Wig Correctly and Faster

Drying a wig is a challenging process.  It takes a lot of time, and getting the roots or cap completely dry is difficult.  See below for tips on how to properly and quickly dry your wig to maintain its shape and prevent damage.

1. Do Not Comb It When Wet

The crucial thing you need to understand is that while your wig is wet, it is at its most delicate and susceptible.  As a result, you should avoid combing your hair while the wig is damp or wet.  This is due to the fact that combing wet hair will harm the cuticle that shields the real hair wig's fibers, making breakage more likely.

Combing damp wigs can result in hair loss and expose areas of the wig cap in addition to harming the individual hair fibers.  There is little possibility that new hair will grow to cover up these bald spots once the wig cap patches are visible.  Therefore, you should not go for a brush to comb your wig until it is completely dry.

2. Pat Dry with a Towel

After washing, wrap your wig in a soft towel and pat (don’t rub) to remove excess water.Your wig is at its most vulnerable when it is damp from washing.  In fact, the weight of the water in the hair may cause the wig strands to expand, leaving your wig ill-fitting and deformed.  In this instance, you must carefully blot out any extra water from the wig using a fresh, absorbent towel.  Avoid using a towel to squeeze, wring, or rub your wig.  For instance, to allow for additional water absorption, place the clean, damp wig hair in a dry towel and keep it there for five minutes.

If at all feasible, use a clean cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel instead, as they are softer, more absorbent, and won't harm your hair. This will also prevent breaking and tangling.

3. Use a Hairdryer on a Low Set

Human hair wigs may tolerate very low heat from a hair drier, but in order to minimize heat exposure, the wig needs to be largely dried first.  Before using a hairdryer on a cold or low heat air setting, you can let your human hair wig air dry until it is at least half dry if you are in a hurry to dry it.

Additionally, remember to apply a heat protectant before to drying your hair.  Make sure the wig cap and roots are totally dry during the drying process; if they aren't, the excess moisture could serve as a haven for bacteria.

4. Air Dry in the Shade

If you have the time, you can let your wig and wig stand air dry in the shade instead than in the bathroom or direct sunshine.  Human hair strands will be weakened and dried out by the UV, and their color may even fade.  The wig may develop mildew if it is subjected to excessive moisture and steam!

Your wig may always take longer to air-dry in chilly climates.  When preparing to clean your wigs, keep this thing in mind.

If you have a synthetic wig, it is advised that you keep it in an area with enough air circulation and let it air dry completely overnight rather than using a hair dryer.

5. Use a Wig Stand

In between washes, wig stands are frequently used to dry your wig.  Your wig will dry in an odd form if you store it on a hook or a flat surface after washing.  Your clean wig may warp and flatten if you don't use a stand to dry it, giving it an extremely fake appearance.  Your wig may not fit as well as it should since it may even stretch the wig cap.
